Maria Karam (b. Caracas, Venezuela, 1986) is a Venezuelan-French fiber artist and designer based in Barcelona. Trained in design and visual communication at ProDiseño (Caracas) and the Basel Academy of Art and Design (Switzerland), she later deepened her textile knowledge in Chile through a diploma at Universidad Católica, exploring both pre-Columbian and contemporary weaving practices.

Her practice bridges the natural world with her inner spiritual realm, using textile gestures as a language of transformation. She translates the energy of flowers into woven form, where texture, rhythm, and color emerge as intuitive responses to nature’s pulse. Each tapestry reveals traces of her inner alchemy—a dialogue between emotion and material.

In her collection Sensus Flora, Maria reinterprets 101 paper-collage abstract flowers—each originally composed from torn paper—into irregular, dimensional tapestries crafted from nearly 90 % recycled cotton and natural fibers such as linen, wool, and raffia. The result expands the language of tapestry, giving rise to pieces with singular character and presence. Each flower-tapestry embodies a distinct state of consciousness, echoing a memory of nature’s intelligence through form, rhythm, and chromatic balance.

These works invite a contemplative encounter between viewer and object. Their abstract florals evoke pleasure, beauty, and renewal, while harmonizing the spaces they inhabit—offering tactile warmth, acoustic softness, and quiet resonance.

Her first textile work, Danza Cósmica (woven in Chile), was selected for the FAD Art Awards and exhibited at Best Design of the Year (Museum of Design Barcelona, 2017). Her work has since been shown in Barcelona, Granollers, Cornellà, the National Art Gallery of Venezuela, and Paris (October 2025 during Art Basel), reflecting a growing dialogue between art, craft, and collectible design.
